Shellie Zimmerman is filing for divorce from George Zimmerman, the neighborhood watchman who was acquitted of second-degree murder in the death of Trayvon Martin.
Attorney Kelly Sims confirmed to the Local 6 on Thursday that his client, Shellie Zimmerman, is divorcing her husband of six years. Sims said his client filed it in the Seminole County courts, citing the marriage "irretrievably broken."
Thursday's report of the impending divorce comes a week after Shellie Zimmerman said in an interview she "would have to think about" if she stayed married to George Zimmerman.
George Zimmerman's brother, Robert, asked for prayers for Shellie and George Zimmerman on Twitter.
Local 6 has also reached out to Zimmerman's attorney, Mark O'Mara, but has not yet heard back.
Shellie Zimmerman pleaded guilty last week to a misdemeanor perjury charge for lying during a bail hearing following her husband's arrest for the fatal shooting of 17-year-old Martin in February 2012.
Her husband wasn't in court with her last week as she was sentenced to a year's probation and 100 hours of community service.
George Zimmerman made headlines again on Wednesday after Lake Mary police said they issued him a $256 speeding ticket the day before.
A jury found George Zimmerman not guilty of second-degree murder in July 2013.
