Deputies are investigating an attempted robbery that occurred at a Deltona grocery store Sunday night and may be linked to similar incidents around Central Florida.

Volusia County Sheriff's deputies said a suspect walked into the Publix at 2100 Saxon Blvd. at about 6:30 p.m. and handed the customer service clerk demanding cash and warning the clerk not to call for help.

When the clerk said he didn't have money, the suspect refolded his note and walked out of the store.

The clerk said the suspect didn't imply that he had a weapon, according to a sheriff's office report.

The suspect was described as a white, 6-foot-2, 160- to 180-pound man wearing a cap and sunglasses.

Incidents involving suspects with a similar description were reported in Osceola County on Saturday and Winter Park and St. Augustine on Sunday, deputies said. Each incident occurred at a Publix grocery store.

Deputies urge anyone with information about the suspect to call the sheriff's office at 386-860-7030 or Crime Stoppers at 888-277-TIPS.
