MOUNT DORA, Fla. -

A 17-year-old Mount Dora High School student was arrested Friday after police say he brought an "Airsoft" gun to school.

A classmate says she looked in the teen's backpack for something else, noticed the gun, then reported it to school officials.

Officers responded to the school and say they found the gun in the bathroom trash can. Investigators say the gun only shoots plastic pellets, but may have appeared to be real because the orange piece placed on the end of the gun to show its fake was removed.

The teen is charged with possession of a weapon on school grounds.
