SWAT team ends 8-hour standoff in St. Cloud

An eight-hour standoff in St. Cloud ends when a SWAT team busts into a home and detains a man, according to police.

ST. CLOUD, Fla. -

An eight-hour standoff in St. Cloud ended Wednesday morning when a SWAT team busted into a home and detained a man, according to police.

St. Cloud police said Michael Steven Chism, 21, was taken into custody and faces felony charges of battery and false imprisonment.

The standoff began around 10:20 p.m. Tuesday at a home in the 1100 block of Maryland Avenue near the Southland Shopping Center.

According to police, Chism got into a physical altercation with his girlfriend before barricading himself inside the home.

After several hours, the SWAT team forced entry into the house and took Chism into custody. 

Chism, who did not have a gun, suffered minor injuries when he was bitten by a K-9.

No other details have been released.
