A Marion County teacher has now been charged with sexual battery after being arrested Tuesday, after police say he housed one of his students who was reported by her parents as a runaway.

After re-interviewing 54-year-old Duane Ernest Adams, a teacher at Francis Marion Military Academy in Ocala, and a 15-year-old student, deputies said the two admitted to having a sexual relationship, exchanging vows and rings, and considered themselves married.

Deputies said the two were planning on running away once the student turned 16. Their relationship had been going on over the last month and a half at Adams' home, deputies said.

Over this past weekend while at a motel in Daytona, deputies said the pair also engaged in sexual activity. The investigation into those incidents has been turned over to the agency with jurisdiction.

Adams was arrested and deputies said he is charged with eight counts of sexual battery by a person in a position of familial or custodial authority, eight counts of lewd and lascivious molestation, and eight counts of lewd and lascivious exhibition.

Adams was delivered to the Marion County Jail. His bond was set at $176,000.
