Springfield is Coming
Greetings!! Universal just announced one of the worst-kept secrets in theme park history: The town of Springfield is coming to Universal Studios this summer. Like most new Universal announcements , it came on the resort's Facebook page.
We've been telling you about this addition for a while here at Theme World. And the construction made it pretty obvious for months.
Those photos are from February. Last night -- someone tweeted that storms blew the cover off of one of the additions:
And overnight the rest of the signs went up for the almost-complete dining area.
Yes -- Moe's Tavern will be a real bar (and I hear they are working on a Flaming Moe)
Here is an overview of the area a reader sent to me this morning. Duff Gardens is under construction in the foreground. And yes, there will be Duff Beer brewed just for Universal.
Here: this handy concept art will show you how it all fits together.
The existing Simpson's ride in in the upper left of the image. Take a closer look at what is going up in front of the ride.
Yep -- that's a new ride called Kang & Kodos' Twirl 'n' Hurl. Universal's announcement says it "will take you "foolish humans" on an intergalactic spin designed to send you into orbit!"
Duff Gardens is going up along the waterfront -- and it appears there will be a good amount of seating along the lagoon.
And there are some nice touches like Lard Lad's Donuts and it appears Chief Wiggum had a mishap.
The other eateries include Krusty Burger -- which promises to serve up a Krusty-certified meat sandwich. There's also a new shop: Android's Dungeon.
Springfield is coming to Universal Orlando this Summer. We will keep you posted on the exact dates.
And good luck to our friends at SeaWorld as Antarctica: Empire of the Penguin opens up to guests tomorrow. We'll keep you posted.
Tomorrow also marks the start of a 24-hour party at the Magic Kingdom.
So I'll have more from a busy week in Theme World tomorrow. Until then, Keep your emails, questions, and comments coming!
See you in the parks!
