Deputies said the near-drowning was reported at a private day care on Huntington Avenue just before 10 a.m.

The 3-year-old was taken to Parish Medical Center and is described by deputies as alert and awake.

In the 911 call, the caller told dispatchers the child was throwing up water and "out of it."
