TAMPA, Fla. -

A Florida Highway Patrol trooper helped deliver a baby along Interstate 4 on Friday morning at a crash scene.

FHP said Trooper Brett McCranie was investigating a four-vehicle crash on westbound I-4 near Mango Road in Tampa when the trooper spotted a man driving along the median and stopped.

When McCranie approached Arturo Santiago-Santiago, 32, of Plant City, he told McCranie that his wife, Emilia Paz, was in labor.

McCranie ran to Paz, who moments later delivered a baby girl named Iris, according to FHP.

McCranie provided basic care for the newborn and called Hillsborough County Fire Rescue, which took Paz and the infant to Tampa General Hospital in good condition.
