Trooper hits woman, 97, in Daytona Beach parking lot

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. -

A 97-year-old woman was hit by a Florida Highway Patrol trooper vehicle in Daytona Beach on Wednesday afternoon.

Maria Mccewen, of Daytona Beach, was taken to Halifax Hospital in critical condition after Trooper Gabriel Keyes struck her turning into the Walgreens parking lot off of Atlantic Avenue, according to FHP.

Troopers said Keyes made a left turn to travel down the parking lane when the front left part of the vehicle struck Mccewen, knocking her to the ground.

Mccewen's leg was badly injured, according to troopers.

No other information was immediately available. The crash remains under investigation.
