Trooper rescues bald eagle struck by car on Florida Turnpike

ST. CLOUD, Fla – Florida Highway Patrol Trooper Julio Velez has received an award for his actions in saving one of the symbols of the nation in October.

Velez rescued a bald eagle near the Florida Turnpike in Osceola County after the eagle struck the windshield of a Jeep Cherokee going north.

 

The driver of the Jeep was not injured, and the eagle recovered at the Birds of Prey Center in Maitland. 

 

Velez received his award on Sunday at a fundraiser. The award was given to Velez by Audubon Birds of Prey for saving the eagle.
