A tropical depression has formed off Africa and is moving west.

A tropical storm warning has been issued for several of the southern Cape Verde Islands.

The center of the depression was located about 275 miles (440 km) east-southeast of the southernmost Cape Verde Islands on Sunday afternoon. Its maximum winds were 30 mph, and forecasters said the system could become a tropical storm on Monday.

Its center was expected to stay south of the Cape Verde Islands.
