Turf war sparks in Palm Shores
A man in Palm Shores' artificial turf lawn has town officials in a fuss.
Local 6 news partner Florida Today reports Steve Anderson is building five Key West-style homes in Palm Shores along the 130-mile Indian River Lagoon Scenic Highway. He plans on using recycled turf from athletic fields on their lawns.
But not if the city can help it. They plan on banning synthetic grass as part of a new landscaping ordinance. Until then, they only require he build a wall between the property and outside viewers.
Anderson says the turf is more environmentally friendly because runoff from his plastic yard is pure rainwater and much easier on the river than a traditional, fertilized lawn with grass clippings and pesticides.
