THE VILLAGES, Fla. -

The Villages fire chief was released from jail after he was arrested on one count of child abuse.

Michael Tucker, who's been the fire chief of The Villages for more than a decade, was arrested Thursday night, Sumter County Sheriff Lt. Caruthers said.

Local 6 has learned an investigation was launched after a verbal argument turned physical on Wednesday night.

According to the report, Tucker beat the child and dragged the child outside by the neck. It's not clear how old the child was.

In 2011, Tucker was named Florida Fire Chiefs' Association Chief of the Year and recently achieved accreditation from the Commission on Fire Accreditation International.
