FWC posts a sign warning of coyotes.

After reported coyote sightings and the capture of a bobcat, the Willow Wood neighborhood off Apopka-Vineland Road and Conroy-Windermere Road is still on high alert.

In order to increase awareness of wildlife in the area, the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission posted a sign warning residents that there is a coyote in the area and to watch their pets.

Last week, a woman was walking her Chihuahua when a coyote snatched and killed it in front of her. A trap was set to catch the coyote, but a bobcat was caught instead. The trap has now been reset.

"Be careful if you're walking a little, tiny dog on a leash or, in particular, if you have very small children with you," said John Jeffcoat III, the Esplanade Homeowner's Association president.  "Just be aware we're in an area where there are wild animals."

Wildlife workers suspect the coyote is hunting for food. They recommend people always walk their pets on a leash and avoid walking at night.
