Woman pulled from vehicle, carjacked in random attack in Orange County

Vehicle recovered, arrest made in Daytona Beach

ORLANDO, Fla.

An arrest was made early Wednesday in Volusia County after a woman was forcibly removed from her vehicle and carjacked in a random attack in Orange County, deputies said.

The carjacking was reported at 10:40 p.m. Tuesday at 8700 Conroy Windermere Road near Chain of Lakes Middle School in Orlando.

"She stopped at the light, someone had struck her from behind on the bumper," Orange County Sheriff's Office spokesperson Deputy Ingrid Tejada-Monforte said.

According to the report, the woman pulled into the bus loop of the school, and a man got out of the other vehicle, pulled her out of her car and drove off in her vehicle, deputies said.

"She was thinking everything was going to be okay. And then they took advantage of her, of the situation, forced her out of the vehicle," Tejada-Monforte said.

Two other men in the car that struck the woman's vehicle also drove off, deputies said.

The woman was not injured in the carjacking, which deputies called "a random act of violence."

Deputies said the stolen vehicle was found Wednesday morning in Daytona Beach, and an arrest was made in connection with the carjacking. Details about the arrest have not yet been released.

The sheriff's office said drivers who find themselves in a similar situation should pull over in a well lit area with other people around. You do not have to roll down your window or get out of your car. Keep your doors locked and be aware of your surroundings. Call 911 and wait for law enforcement to arrive to take a report.

"If you don't feel comfortable, that instinct is telling you something is not right, listen to your instinct," Tejada-Monforte said.
