Worker stole grave markers, sold them for scrap metal, Volusia cops say
A Volusia County man has been arrested after being accused of stealing grave markers from the monument company where he worked at.
Daniel Monahan was charged with grand theft and 24 counts of dealing in stolen property in his Thursday arrest.
Deputies said Monahan told them he stole the grave markers from Volusia Monuments and sold them for scrap metal. He also told deputies that he had a prescription pill addiction.
Monahan created a fake letter from his employer that gave him permission to sell the items, according to deputies.
He earned more than $1,500 selling the markers, deputies said.
Monahan was booked into Volusia County jail Thursday.
