A Lake County sheriff's deputy driving a marked department pickup struck a bicyclist Friday morning, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The crash occurred around 5:40 a.m. on County Road 44 near South Fish Camp Road in Grand Island.

The FHP said Deputy Mitchell Blackmon, 43, of Tavares, was headed westbound on C.R. 44 when his right, front-side mirror hit Keitch McManus, 42, of Eustis, who was riding a bike.

McManus was taken to Florida Waterman Hospital with minor injuries, troopers said.  Blackmon was not hurt.

The FHP said it's investigating whether McManus' bike had lights or reflectors and if he was visible to Blackmon.
