ORLANDO, Fla. -

A man was killed and four others were injured early Wednesday when a pickup truck crashed into a tree in Orlando.

The fatal crash happened around 2:30 a.m. near 14560 Worchester Drive at Eaglesham Drive, blocks away from Brighthouse Networks Stadium at UCF.

According to officials, the driver of the pickup, 23-year-old Travis Nachman of Seminole, failed to negotiate a curve, striking a light pole and running over shrubs before slamming into the tree.

24-year-old passenger Gregory John, of Largo, Fla., was pronounced dead at the scene.  23-year-olds Joseph Mitchell and Heather Baucknecht of Clearwater and 33-year-old Michael Carver of Indian Rocks Beach were taken to nearby hospitals in serious conditions.

Nachman was taken to an area hospital with minor injuries.

An investigation into the crash is ongoing and troopers say they believe the crash was alcohol-related.
