Hurricanes spent bye week honing offense

No. 16 Miami says it used its bye week to get better. That's probably not the best of news for Savannah State and South Florida, the next two opponents on the Hurricanes' schedule.

The Hurricanes got back on the practice field Monday, after a brief weekend break. Miami outscored Florida Atlantic and Florida 55-22 to open the season, a strong sign for the defense but an indicator that the offense isn't totally clicking yet, either.

Quarterback Stephen Morris says Miami worked hard to address some issues, and coach Al Golden made third-down conversions a point of emphasis. Miami has connected on only 20 percent of its third-down chances so far, one of the worst success rates in the nation.
