NEW SMYRNA BEACH, Fla. -

A 33-year-old New Smyrna Beach woman was killed early Wednesday in a hit-and-run crash, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

The FHP said Desiree Williams was killed in the crash, which occurred around 2:30 a.m. near the intersection of South Atlantic Avenue and Bottle Island Road in New Smyrna Beach.

Jason William Wilke, 31, of New Smyrna Beach, was arrested on charges of leaving the scene of a crash and driving on a revoked license, troopers said.  Other charges are pending against him.

According to the FHP, Wilke was driving a 1996 Ford pickup southbound on Atlantic Avenue and struck Williams, who was walking in the roadway.  Neither Wilke nor a 29-year-old woman who was also in the pickup were injured.

Wilke then drove off but was later located by Volusia County sheriff's deputies, the FHP said.

Wilke was arrested and taken to jail.

An investigation is ongoing.
